Fiber preforms for wingfoils: high-strength, lightweight & precisely manufactured with TFP
✓ Are you a manufacturer of water sports equipment?
✓ Do you need the benefits of carbon in your product?
✓ Are you looking for innovative manufacturing processes for your foil or surfboard?
TFP Technology specializes in the manufacture of carbon fibre preforms. We use innovative manufacturing processes to produce foils for wingfoil boards, among other things.
Produce lightweight and resilient components economically
As a manufacturer of wingfoil components, you are increasingly faced with the challenge of producing stable yet extremely lightweight components in series. Especially for structurally loaded parts such as masts, fuselages or wings, the highest demands on material, production and repeatability must be met. TFP Technology supports you with tailor-made fiber preforms based on Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP). It is ideal for complex geometries and high-performance applications in water sports.
Wingfoils pose new challenges for production
Wingfoiling is booming. The sport combines surfboards, hydrofoils and inflatable wings to create an innovative means of transportation on the water. For you as a manufacturer, this means: high dynamics, sophisticated component geometries and the need for lightweight materials meet increasing competition and price pressure. Precision and resilience are particularly crucial for the wingfoil, i.e. the underwater wing.
With TFP-manufactured fiber preforms, components can be produced with greater precision and consistent quality, with reduced material usage and shorter process times. The fibers are positioned precisely along the forces that occur. This results in high-strength structures with minimal weight. They are suitable for wingfoil components with the highest demands on aerodynamics and strength.
Typical challenges in component manufacturing
When developing and manufacturing wingfoil components, manufacturers are often confronted with the following problems:
- Stability under load: Foils have to withstand high forces - with low weight.
- Complex geometries: Free-form surfaces and flow optimization make conventional processes inflexible.
- Series production: Repeatability and production reliability are prerequisites for scaling.
- Material consumption and waste: Inaccurate production techniques increase costs and material requirements.
- Elaborate manual work: Many production processes are manual, time-consuming and error-prone.
The solution: Tailored Fiber Placement from TFP
TFP Technology offers you a production technology that responds precisely to these challenges. Our fiber preforms:
- optimize material usage through precise fiber placement
- enable reproducible quality from prototype to series production
- reduce weight without compromising on stability
- minimize waste through digitally plannable processes
- are ideal for complex shapes, from masts to three-dimensional wings
This allows you to transform your product idea into a high-performance, marketable series component – economically and scalably.
Fiber preforms: Why technical embroidery is setting new standards
Technical embroidery, the heart of Tailored Fiber Placement technology, gives you new design freedom.
Carbon fibers can thus be positioned precisely and according to the load path, resulting in a tailor-made fiber architecture. This allows targeted reinforcements or weight savings in structurally relevant areas of the foil, such as at the transition from mast to wing or at heavily loaded ends.
Even complex geometries, for example with curved contours to improve aerodynamics, can be realized efficiently.
The technology also offers an additional benefit: functional elements such as sensors or heating wires can be integrated directly into the fiber structure. This results in intelligent foils with integrated measurement technology, for example for recording load or performance data in real time.

How to increase ROI through efficient preform production
As a manufacturer, you not only benefit from the functional advantages of TFP preforms, their use also pays off economically:
- Up to 30% less material used thanks to load path-oriented fiber alignment
- Fewer rejects thanks to reproducible preform quality
- Shorter development cycles, as time-consuming manual draping is no longer necessary
This means that even smaller series can be produced economically with high precision and process stability.

Do you want to make your wingfoil production lighter, more stable and more efficient?
Let’s have a no-obligation discussion to find out how TFP preforms can be used in your development process.
What is wingfoil?
Wingfoiling, also known as “foil wingsurfing”, is a young, rapidly growing water sport. A board with a hydrofoil is lifted out of the water by the force of a wing held in the hand and glides along almost weightlessly. For you as a manufacturer, this means a growing demand for lightweight, stable and shape-complex components. With Tailored Fiber Placement you are technologically ahead.

Frequently asked questions about fiber preforms for wingfoil components
Which wingfoil components can be manufactured with TFP preforms?
Tailored Fiber Placement can be used to reliably reinforce structurally relevant wingfoil components such as foils, masts, fuselages and wings. The technology is particularly suitable for thin-walled, stressed components with complex geometries.
What are the advantages of TFP preforms over conventional scrims or fabrics?
In contrast to classic textile semi-finished products, TFP preforms enable fiber placement according to the load path. This reduces material usage, improves strength and ensures repeatable quality. This is a real advantage for you as a manufacturer in series production.
Are TFP preforms also suitable for small series or prototypes?
Yes, TFP can be used economically from small quantities and offers maximum flexibility for development (prototypes) and series production in small, medium and large series. We are a strong partner for start-ups and medium-sized manufacturers in the water sports segment.
Which materials can be processed?
We process a wide range of technical fibers, including carbon, glass, aramid and hybrid combinations. The selection depends on the planned application and the mechanical requirements of the component.
How does the collaboration with TFP Technology work?
You supply your CAD data or a rough design idea, we develop a production-ready fiber layout, manufacture the preforms and, if you wish, accompany you through to series production. Everything from a single source, with a focus on your component and your production.
We produce fiber preforms as semi-finished products for you
Contact us and discuss your requirements for the precise reinforcement of your component, e.g. shape, layout and substrate material, with our TFP experts.
Together with you, we develop a fiber preform as a semi-finished product for further processing in your end product.
We embroider the desired fiber onto a near-net-shape cut carrier material that reinforces your product in exactly the right place.
We produce a sample that you can use and test in your production. After your approval, we start production of the fiber preforms in small or medium series at our site in Falkenstein / Vogtland.
